Great time in Ramsgate, the narrow dog loved the campsite and the feel of sand between her toes. Walked for miles and enjoyed an ice cream and some seafood.

She is now running free on a regular basis although the recall needs work....decided to try a dog whistle.

She is however, over protective of her home space and barks and growls at anyone unknown who has the temerity to enter, invited or not. More socialisation needed!

In the beginning

This blog is in homage to Terry Darlington and his beloved 'Mon'. I read his books, Narrow Dog to Carcassonne, Narrow Dog to Indian River and Narrow Dog to Wigan Pier with absolute delight. I have now retired and have a narrow dog of my own, Bella, and am about to embark with her in a different form of transport. We are heading off in the camper to Italy via some French river stops. I will never be as intrepid as Terry and Mon but hope to have some fun along the way! Bella is 16 months old and when I picked her up in Wales 2 weeks ago she did not know what a lead was and was terrified of everything. However she has come on in leaps and bounds, travels happily in the camper and seems to be on the way to 'normal' whippet behaviour. Crazy. We are going for a shake down trip for 4 days ahead of the main trip to make sure everything works. Wish us luck.

Today was a big day for the little Narrow Dog. She has had her rabies vaccination. She is terrified of going in to the vet's room as she is always convinced that she will be shut in and left but once over the threshold she stood well and accepted another puncture in her neck. We then went for a walk at Old Sarum where she played with several other dogs, walked the ramparts and leapt a stile. She was running so fast at one stage that when she reached the end of the extender lead, I nearly bit the dirt. It is great to see her run now and I look forward to the day when she can run free. To that end we are going to the Paws Park at the weekend to give her some freedom in a well fenced open space.
